Word of the Week: Vermilion

By Matthew, Reporter

Although vermilion sounds like some kind of insect, the word is actually defined as a vibrant red color. This word originates from the 1300s in France. Vermilion can be used as a verb, adjective, and noun. The adjective is self explanatory, but the verb means to color something with the color vermilion. Unless you’re really into colors or some fashion designer, chances are you just know this color to be just red, but if your favorite color is red, tell people it’s vermilion so that you seem more articulate.
