Fires in Northern California

Panther Puff Postponed

By Tera Waterman, Reporter

On Sunday, October 7th, fires began raging in Northern California, near Santa Rosa, Napa, and Sonoma. The fires now have killed about 31 people, it is being considered the deadliest series of fires in California history according to Cal Fire. These fires have burned about 191,000 acres throughout the state, much of which is considered wine country. Many people have lost their homes and are seeking refuge at centers that have been set up all around the area, mainly high schools and other community areas.

These fires have resulted in harmful air quality all over California. It can upset many medical illnesses such as,  asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or heart conditions. Even for people without any medical illnesses it can affect their lungs and make it harder for them to breathe, and it can affect your body in many other ways.

Due to the smoke from the fires and strong winds this past Wednesday, October 11th, Panther Puff was postponed along with all other sport practices. Many students were very upset about this because they were excited to be a part of Panther Puff or to watch Panther Puff.

If you are interested in helping out the people who are affected by the fire you can donate on the America Red Cross’ website below.
