Dating Advice From Teachers

Dating Advice

By Chandara Tep, Reporter

Valentine’s Day is around the corner and it’s around this time of the year when new relationships begin to form. Dating is a major variable, so I went around asking teachers about the best way to go about it. Mr.Austin, one of the school’s biology teachers suggested to, “keep it light, have fun, and don’t be intimidated.” Dating doesn’t have to be a serious thing and you have a long life ahead, so if things go wrong, oh well. Math teacher, Mr. Krueger, advised, “not to do any grand gestures until you actually start dating.” Many teens have the idea “if I do this then they have to like me.” Despite what television might show you, in reality, you might just be wasting your time. Mr.Heese, the school’s physics teacher, also mentioned to, “always be yourself and never sacrifice your friends for a new relationship.” If the person you are dating truly likes you, you should not have to change in any way whatsoever. Dating can sometimes be hard and awkward but it really shouldn’t be. Mr.Cover, a music teacher, said to take the first step, “You can start with a ‘hi’, and some casual conversation to get to know them a bit better and then transition into ‘first date’ territory.” The first step can always be the hardest, sometimes the best thing  to do is to jump right in. Mrs.Coito, a dance teacher, also recommended, “not to date until you are in college and have a better sense of who you are.” In high school your mind can be in multiple places at once so you may not truly know what you want. It is best to just take your time. You’ll find that special person one day.
