Should you really be considered an adult at 18?

Turning 18 years old is one of the biggest parts of your life. It is when you are legally considered an adult, but is that true? I think when you become 18 years old, you are not an adult yet. In the name “eight-teen” the word “teen” is literally in the name. Your brain doesn’t fully develop until your 25 years old, which means your frontal lobe is still developing while you are 18 when your considered “an adult”. You are still in high school when your 18, and are far from being a young mature adult. As someone who will be turning 18 in 2 months, it scares me a lot to know that I will be held accountable for everything that I do. “I think the idea of being 18 unequivocally daunting. I am excited for what the future has in store, but it is scary taking the reins of my own life.” (Shelby Benz). For some people becoming 18 and being an adult is more exciting to others. “ I will not miss being a kid. I can apply for jobs, without having to have a work permit. It feels more liberating being an adult instead of being a kid.” (Matthew Smith). We shouldn’t be considered an adult until at least 21, when you are legally allowed to drink alcohol. Growing up sucks.
