Rana Banankhah is currently a freshman in the International Baccalaureate program at Modesto High School. In eighth grade, she actively participated in Science Olympiad, Math Superbowl, Cross Country, Track and Field, Basketball, PHAST JV, Peer Tutors, Leadership, WEB Leaders, CJSF, and more. This year, she’s participating in Tennis and Academic Decathlon, and is interested in joining Project Hope, Science Olympiad, Math Superbowl, PHAST, basketball, and track and field. Rana also takes a great interest in writing. She has won first and second place in the Stanislaus Peace Essay competition in 2018 and 2016 respectively. She has also won second place in the 2018 Aileen Jaffa Poetry Contest and has had one of her poems published in the Modesto Poet's Corner Poetry Booklet. In her limited spare time, Rana can easily be found reading, writing, playing basketball, listening to music, or trying to finish endless amounts of homework. As of now, she's founding a Literary Magazine Club, which aims to regularly publish a literary magazine, featuring short stories and poetry, curated by the students. In the future, Rana aspires to become an author, ophthalmologist, C.E.O., and inventor. She's always excited about the new opportunities and experiences that she will encounter throughout the rest of her life.
